Describing Location: X の Position に Y が ある/いる
Combine の, position nouns, に, が, and あります/います to state where people and things exist.
- の, position words, and ある/いる.
This composes several earlier concepts into one reusable location architecture.
1. Build the location container first
A common pattern is [reference noun の position] に [entity] が あります/います. The に marks where something exists.
Natural: There is a computer on the desk.
Structure: desk — above — at — computer — exists.
Inanimate location.
Natural: Tanaka is in the meeting room.
Structure: meeting room — inside — at — Tanaka — exists.
Animate location.
Natural: There is a router next to the server.
Structure: server — next-to — at — router — exists.
Technical spatial description.
2. Contrast existence-location に with action-location で
会議室に田中さんがいます = Tanaka is there. 会議室で田中さんが話します = Tanaka speaks there.
