~てもいいです: Permission
Ask for and grant permission using Vてもいいですか / Vてもいいです.
- Accurate て-form.
Permission is valuable in workplaces and shared systems: may I change this, may I use this environment, may I leave, is it okay to save?
1. Vてもいいですか asks whether doing V is okay
て-form + も + いいですか literally frames the action as 'even if doing this, is it good/okay?' Naturally: May I...? Is it okay if I...?
2. Ask permission in realistic technical contexts
Keep the requested action explicit so the other person knows exactly what is being authorized.
Natural: May I change this setting?
Structure: this setting change-て — even — okay — question
Configuration permission.
Natural: May I use the test environment?
Structure: test environment use-て — okay?
Environment access.
Natural: May I save it here?
Structure: here at — save-て — okay?
Location + permission.
Natural: May I go home/leave early?
Structure: ahead — return-て — okay?
Everyday/work permission.
3. Permission can be granted with ~てもいいです
A simple affirmative answer can be はい、いいですよ or 変更してもいいです. Real workplace authorization may require more explicit policies; this grammar only expresses language permission.
Natural: Yes, you may use it.
Structure: yes — use-て — okay
Granting permission.
Natural: You may save it here.
Structure: here — save-て — okay
Explicit grant.
4. Change-control permission worksheet
Write eight permission questions: four technical changes/access actions and four everyday actions. Then write an appropriate positive response to each.
