Guided Japanese Course
A mastery path for complete beginners and technology professionals.
HOW THIS COURSE WORKS
Follow the path. Advance by mastery.
The primary path tells you what to do next. You can still open any available lesson, but completion is based on checkpoints rather than calendar days.

~てみる: Try Doing
Use Vてみる / Vてみます to try an action and see what happens.
- Reliable verb て-form.
This is almost tailor-made for technical experimentation: try running it, try changing the setting, try reading it, try using the tool.
1. Vて + みる means try doing V
みる literally means see, but in this construction it means attempt an action to see the result.
2. Use ~てみる for safe experimentation
[{'label': "I'll try using this tool.", 'sample': 'このツールを使ってみます。', 'reading': 'この ツール を つかって みます。', 'natural': {'en': "I'll try using this tool.", 'es': 'Consulta el significado natural en español.'}, 'literal': {'en': 'this tool use-て — try/see', 'es': 'Observa la estructura literal japonesa y el orden de sus componentes.'}, 'note': {'en': 'Tool trial.', 'es': 'Observa si la oración describe una acción, un estado resultante, un deseo, un intento o una preparación.'}}, {'label': "I'll try changing the setting.", 'sample': '設定を変更してみます。', 'reading': 'せってい を へんこうして みます。', 'natural': {'en': "I'll try changing the setting.", 'es': 'Consulta el significado natural en español.'}, 'literal': {'en': 'setting change-て — try', 'es': 'Observa la estructura literal japonesa y el orden de sus componentes.'}, 'note': {'en': 'Safe test context.', 'es': 'Observa si la oración describe una acción, un estado resultante, un deseo, un intento o una preparación.'}}, {'label': "I'll try writing it in Japanese.", 'sample': '日本語で書いてみます。', 'reading': 'にほんご で かいて みます。', 'natural': {'en': "I'll try writing it in Japanese.", 'es': 'Consulta el significado natural en español.'}, 'literal': {'en': 'Japanese using — write-て — try', 'es': 'Observa la estructura literal japonesa y el orden de sus componentes.'}, 'note': {'en': 'Learning experiment.', 'es': 'Observa si la oración describe una acción, un estado resultante, un deseo, un intento o una preparación.'}}, {'label': 'Please try reading it again.', 'sample': 'もう一度読んでみてください。', 'reading': 'もういちど よんで みて ください。', 'natural': {'en': 'Please try reading it again.', 'es': 'Consulta el significado natural en español.'}, 'literal': {'en': 'again read-て — try-て — please', 'es': 'Observa la estructura literal japonesa y el orden de sus componentes.'}, 'note': {'en': 'Request to try.', 'es': 'Observa si la oración describe una acción, un estado resultante, un deseo, un intento o una preparación.'}}]
3. 'Try it' does not imply the action is safe or authorized
In technical work, experiment in an appropriate sandbox/test environment. Grammar gives you the expression; governance still matters.
4. Experiment notebook
Write eight safe experiments: four technical/test-environment and four Japanese-learning/daily-life. For each, predict an outcome, write ~てみます, then leave a space for the observed result.
INTERACTIVE WORKSHEET
4. Experiment notebook
Create 8 mini experiments: hypothesis | Vてみます | observed result. Use only safe/authorized technical examples.
Tip: on a foldable or tablet, use your pen directly on the page. Your strokes are saved in this browser as you work.
4. Experiment notebook
Create 8 mini experiments: hypothesis | Vてみます | observed result. Use only safe/authorized technical examples.
5. Use the IDE and course tools experimentally
The grammar itself matches a test-and-observe workflow.
Language IDE
Why here: ~てみる is compositional and easy to inspect.
How to use it for this lesson: Build 使う→使って→使ってみます; repeat with 書く, 読む, 変更する.
Build try-doing forms →Side by Side Reader
Why here: You can make reading itself an experiment.
How to use it for this lesson: Choose a short technical paragraph and 読んでみる: try the Japanese side first, then compare with English.
Try reading first →Mastery checkpoint
