~と思う: Thoughts & Opinions
Embed a plain-form clause before と思います to express what you think.
- Plain forms.
This is foundational professional language: I think the issue is here, I think it will work, I don't think this is difficult.
1. Put the thought in plain form, then quote it with と
[plain clause] + と思います. The outer 思います can remain polite.
I think this approach is good.
2. Express technical opinions without turning them into facts

3. Two negatives can mean different things
必要じゃないと思います = I think it is not necessary. 必要だと思いません = I do not think it is necessary. They are close but the scope is structurally different.
4. Technical opinion notebook
Write ten opinions: 4 project/system, 3 Japanese-study, 3 everyday. Underline the complete plain clause and box と 思います.
INTERACTIVE WORKSHEET
4. Technical opinion notebook
Write 10 [plain clause]と思います sentences. Include affirmative, negative, adjective, noun, and verb predicates. Add FACT or OPINION beside each source statement.
Tip: on a foldable or tablet, use your pen directly on the page. Your strokes are saved in this browser as you work.
4. Technical opinion notebook
Write 10 [plain clause]と思います sentences. Include affirmative, negative, adjective, noun, and verb predicates. Add FACT or OPINION beside each source statement.
5. Visualize the nested clause
This construction introduces an important idea: sentences can contain sentences.
Language IDE
Why here: Nested clause boundaries are easier to understand when explicitly labeled.
How to use it for this lesson: Build この方法はいい + と + 思います. Repeat with a negative verb and noun predicate.
