Why this matters

Japanese often distinguishes a bare fact from a fact offered as explanation. This matters in troubleshooting, status updates, and answering 'what happened?'

1. A fact and an explanation can share the same core event

雨です states 'It is raining.' 雨なんです can present that fact as explanatory context. With verbs: エラーが出たんです.
