~たい: Want to Do
Convert a verb's ます stem into ~たい to express your own desire to perform an action.
- Polite ます-form verbs and the ます stem.
This lets you express learning and work intent: I want to learn Japanese, check the logs, or fix a bug.
1. Remove ます and attach たい
確認します → 確認したい. 行きます → 行きたい. 食べます → 食べたい. The result behaves like an い-adjective.
2. Express useful personal goals
~たい normally expresses the speaker's own desire or asks the listener's desire in a question.
Natural: I want to learn Japanese.
Structure: Japanese — object — want-to-learn
Learning goal.

3. を remains a safe beginner object marker
You may encounter が with ~たい in natural Japanese, but を is a clear beginner baseline and preserves the object role you know.
4. Convert your goal inventory
Return to the ten goals from 4-1. Rewrite each as a ~たい sentence.
